Drivers Needed - Canadian Cancer SocietyFriday, February 5, 2016
The Canadian Cancer Society, Renfrew County Community Office, desperately requires volunteer drivers in the Barry’s Bay area for the Wheels of Hope program, which currently drives more than 350,000 km to take cancer patients from Renfrew County to Ottawa. Currently they have over 31 clients in the Barry’s Bay area that use the Wheels of Hope program accumulating over 500 trips to cancer related appointments.
The problem is, that the Canadian Cancer Society, currently only has 1 driver from the area, so often drivers come in from other areas to make sure these people can be taken care of, and that, unfortunately costs a lot more in mileage costs. Sometimes if drivers are not available, rides cannot be offered. This program is a necessity and these cancer patients cannot afford to lose it. To some folks, this is the only way that they can get to treatments.
Please help us get the word out that drives are needed in the area, and if you can volunteer contact the Canadian Cancer Society at 613-735-2571 for more details.
